THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES

Written and Directed by Roger Bean

Synopsis: A cotton-candy colored non-stop pop musical, the show features the iconic sounds of the fifties and beyond in a journey back to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where the Wonderettes -- Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy and Suzy -- are four young girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts. Songs include "Lollipop," "Dream Lover," "Stupid Cupid," "Lipstick on Your Collar," "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me," "It's My Party" and "It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)."

NEW YORK TIMES:
"The production enjoyed a long run in Los Angeles, and with good reason. For a certain generation — and all fanciers of the girl-group sound — this is an utter charm bomb. "

THEATERMANIA:
"Still, even as the girls' stories become more serious in the second half of the show, its light-hearted spirit never fully wanes, and audiences leave beaming -- and humming. "

VARIETY:
" It may not be great art, but it's the kind of fun that keeps cash registers ringing. "

NEW YORK SUN:
"For theatergoers content to bask in girl-group renditions of tunes like "The Shoop Shoop Song" and "Leader of the Pack" for two hours, it will go down easy as a malted milk shake. Otherwise, even the show's charming cast may not get you through a marathon evening of sugary nostalgia."

TIME OUT NY:
" While the performers are game, especially the lovably nerdy Farah Alvin, who has a tremendous voice, the overall effect is akin to overdosing on cotton candy. Unless your baby-boomer parents are in town, skip it."
